Here is an excerpt from  his account of VILLA MICHAELA . page 70

” Just ten mintues from the beautiful city of Lucca.  To get here you follow a tiny road called Via di Valle

which takes you past the Vorno church and winds up the hill , through olive groves and onto the mountain where it becomes a track and finally peters out . So there is little traffic and all you hear is the whisper of the breeze and the occasional chiming of church bells .

Tuscany does it again -another eye-popping house looking over a vast range of hills and forests , in this case 50 acres of pine with the olive groves beyond . Here you also have a fine garden , heady with gardenias , plus a tennis court and a pool . There is more than a touch of opulence too, something often found with foreign owners driven by the magic of Tuscany . The grander bedrooms have frescoed ceilings , lavish fabrics, huge beds and double sinks .

Puccini , Verdi and Dante are the names of those rooms , and you may well find yourselves listening to opera music while you float around in a haze of admiration .

You can get here easily: train to Lucca , hourly bus to Vorno  and then five minutes of walking to the house . To get your fix of medieval  Tuscany you need only to drop down  into Lucca. There you can cycle around the entirely intact city walls and take in a concert ; this is Puccini’s birthplace and the city is alive with music.

If you are assailed by delusions of grandeur during your stay at Villa Michaela you can hire two sopranos and a tenor to sing to you  in the garden . This is more of a palazzo than a villa, and the mountain bleongs to it – as does the chapel,

so you could even marry here. ”
